| June 26, 2002 UDSM Students Collaborate on film Mr. Danny Boyd, returning Fulbright Scholar and Professor from West Virginia State College in the United States, is advising the students on how to direct, act, and edit this production. The script, which has been inspired by the ISHI "you can't tell by looking" campaign slogan, has also been produced by the students under the supervision of current U.S. Fulbright Scholar and journalist, Kendall Moore. This collaboration between the University of Dar es Salaam, West Virginia State College and Tanzania Commission for AIDS (TACAIDS) stems from Professor Boyd's personal and long term interest in Tanzania-U.S. exchange since his Fulbright experience. Like Moore, Boyd taught in the University's Department of Fine and Performing Arts under a U.S. State Department Fulbright grant in 1998-99. The initiative is titled "Tele-Drum" and gets its name from Boyd's intention that students learn how to produce a message that is "meant to be heard all around." Production on the film began on June 15 and is expected to be completed by June 28. TACAIDS, Healthscope Tanzania Ltd., USAID, Ireland AID and the Johns Hopkins University Center for Communication Programmes, are partnering with the students in the production. The final film is expected for release to local television stations by early September. The ISHI campaign is sponsored by TACAIDS with funding from USAID and Ireland AID. ******** |
